Psalm 57:7-11
7 My heart is steadfast, O God,
my heart is steadfast!
I will sing and make melody!
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
9 I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
10 For your steadfast love is great to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
Let your glory be over all the earth!
Psalm 57 is one of the Psalm readings for this 27th day of November. What a beautiful text for such a beautiful day. Our hearts can, and should, be steadfast (v.7) because God’s love for us is steadfast (v.10). We can, and should, be awakened to praise and glorify God (vv.8-9) because God is glorious in all the earth (v.11). We can, and should, give thanks (v.9) because God is (v.11)!
I thank God for all that He is for us in Christ Jesus. While the beauty of the day makes this an “easy” day to give thanks, the depth of thanks for me runs more deeply into the lives of those who find reasons to be thankful in the midst of their cancers, appendectomies, viruses, losses, even sorrow. God’s steadfast love NEVER CEASES!
In fact, one beautiful text in another Psalm for today is in Psalm 27:10, “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” What beautiful assurance that even for those who do not experience the earthly blessings of good families, you experience the eternal blessing (on earth) of God’s unchangeable, fatherly love, for those in Christ Jesus.
Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving!
