Good grief. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later. I’ve often wondered why people who were vegetarian because of their stance on animal rights didn’t take it to the next “logical” step and consider the rights of vegetation as well.
I can already tell you the next step: concern for the inherent worth and dignity of the flu virus. After that will be the sudden realization that in our homosapiens-centric arrogance and mania for sanitary living conditions we have been commiting genocide upon billions of innocent bacteria living on our kitchen countertops and in our bathrooms.
I can’t even imagine it, but somehow I feel certain it’s all going to get stranger still before we’re through.
