Currently I am sitting in Chicago with our team and enjoying the fellowship and the extended layover. We will soon be loading up for the longer (15 hour) portion of our journey. I will not be including too many details, but as I am able to I will post a small bit to help you know what all is going on.
Psalm 19:7-11
7 The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.
On the flight here I was reflecting on this passage having journaled about my complete dependence on God’s Word (not the worth of my dependence, but my desperate need). What a joy the Word of God must become to us. Do you notice the progression of the passage? It begins with adhering to the Word because of its goodness and rightness, but before David is done with this brief reflection it is about savoring (longing for and tasting) the Word of God.
As Christ becomes our all-consuming passion, we must realize that to savor Christ demands savoring the written Word, because it is the full and perfect revelation of all that God is in Christ Jesus!
May God bless us all with the richly dwelling Word of God in our homes and lives!
